Japanese Government Railways

Formed in 1920 by the merging of the 17 railways nationalized in 1906, the Japanese Government Railways were a subdivision of (and directly administered by) the Ministry of Transport.

After the war, they were reorganized into the Japanese National Railways by order of the Allied SCAP in 1949.
